Centerpieces (on a budget)
The Do’s and Don’ts of budget-friendly centerpieces
It’s important to have a vision for your special day, but what if your vision is bigger than your budget? Centerpieces make up the bulk of most floral costs. Here are a few Dos and Don’ts when cutting your centerpiece bottom line.
DON’T opt for the smallest option
Making a centerpiece smaller may seem like an obvious budget-friendly choice, but small centerpieces on large tables look awkward, and leave too much “dead” space. Proportions are important! If you have to go small on the florals, fill out the remaining space with votive candles or guest favors.
DO utilize bud vases
Bud vases are a modern, inexpensive alternative to traditional centerpieces. Bud vases offer visual interest and a classic, simple look. Each vase holds 1-3 blooms, giving each a time to shine, and saving you money on fresh flowers.
DON’T count on greenery
Greenery is often assumed to be a “cheap” alternative to fresh flowers - in reality it can be as expensive as flowers (sometimes more!) so don’t rely on greens to do the heavy lifting in your arrangement. For greens that go the distance in your budget, look for varieties with lots of laterals, like huckleberry.
DO use a variety of florals:
Varying textures and tones can create the illusion of a high-end, luscious centerpiece, even if you’re cutting costs. Ensure 4-5 different florals are present for dimension and depth (even if they’re inexpensive, like carnations).
DON'T opt for silk flowers.
Silks can be as much as 5 times as expensive as fresh flowers. They won’t save you money and, no matter how high the quality is, they won’t fool your guests. Avoid silks and choose fresh flowers in inexpensive varieties.
DO work with a Professional Florist.
It may seem cheaper to outsource your florals to your friends, or worse, yourself. Hiring a professional who can work within your budget to deliver a product will always be better that DIY. Why? Because this is your day to remember, and for your guests to enjoy. Leave the dirty work to us!
