In this economy, it’s no surprise that more couples are turning to small weddings. Even the smallest wedding can be expensive - For brides living in moderate to high cost of living areas, a small wedding with 50 guests can still average $25,000-$40,000! From my perspective as a wedding florist, here is why an intimate wedding is the perfect choice for so many couples.
So, what constitutes a small wedding?
A “Small” or “Intimate” wedding has a guest count of 50 or fewer, including the bridal party. In many cases, these weddings include all the components of a traditional wedding - dinner, dancing, cake cutting, and more. For others, dinner is swapped for a sweet brunch or lunch service as a cost-saving alternative, followed by a bar crawl or block party to celebrate!
Why go Small?
Cost. It is no surprise that fewer mouths to feed means a smaller catering budget. Keep in mind that other vendors' costs may not change - your photographer's work is not lessened by a smaller guest count, and neither are your florists (excluding centerpieces, of course). Your DJ plays to a crowd of 50 and 250 with the same energy and set up!
You have more unique, flexible venue options. For a guest count of 25, you can explore unconventional or unique venue options not afforded to larger weddings. Exotic Airbnbs, Intimate downtown restaurants, rooftop bars, and boutique hotels in vacation towns.
More time to be present! The smaller the guest list, the more time you have to spend with each guest. The events of the day can move slower, allowing you more time to enjoy the result of your hard work and months of planning.
